Many great educational websites are developed with Adobe Flash, which is not playable on most mobile devices. To make a difference, we provide Puffin Academy web browser, the fastest Flash + HTML5 enabled mobile browser, to K-12 students for Free!
Puffin Academy always enforces site filtering by only allowing whitelisted educational websites. Publishers and Content providers need to apply for the program to add their sites to our white list.
Dedicated Servers and IPs
To ensure Puffin Academy’s service availability and security, we reserve a set of dedicated servers and an IP ranges for the project. Those servers and IP ranges are isolated from all other operations.
Cloud based site filtering
Puffin Academy uses whitelist-based filtering mechanism on its cloud servers. Anyone can just download the app and visit education sites safely without any further configuration.
All traffics from Puffin Academy app to its server are encrypted. It is safe to use public non-secure WiFi through Puffin Academy, but not safe at all for most browsers.
Puffin servers are entirely stateless, and there is no content cache on our server. We don’t collect end users’ names, e-mails, phone numbers and any personal information.
We log events — but no contents. We log users (from a particular Puffin Academy client, from a particular IP address) and URL’s (to a particular URL, to a particular IP address). They are used for internal statistics, and will be provided to law enforcement on children’s safety data requests.
